Beer/Wine Tasting

Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in 1984. Ever since, the Widmer brothers have created deliciously original American and European style beers and have overseen the entire brewing process from fresh grains to finished beers in the proud tradition of craft brewing.

Drop Top Amber is a rich, flavorful Amber that's smooth and easy to drink. Drop Top is fermented by an American Ale yeast to p roduce beer with a clean flavor and fruity aroma. The velvet texture is from using Honey malt and a touch of milk sugar.

Hefewiezen Our Flagship - America's Original Hefeweizen
A golden unfiltered wheat beer that is truly cloudy and clearly superb. Ever since Widmer introduced Hefeweizen to America in 1986, ours has been the standard by which all other Hefeweizens are judged.

Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you've ever lifted from the beer aisle. The unique flavor stems in part from the Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. These hops have an intense citrus, berry like aroma and flavor not found in any other variety.

W '10 Pitch Black IPA is a Pacific Northwest twisted tribute to an IPA style of beer. It is almost a traditional IPA but it is instead brewed to the emerging style of Cascadian Dark. We add a modest amount of a specially made debittered black malt to give this IPA a very dark color but without the characteristic dark malt flavors.

 Beer Tasting

Tommyknocker Breweries and Pubs Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs, CO is located in the old historical Placer Inn. Opened around 1859, the Placer is located only 4/10th of a mile from the spot where George A. Jackson found the first Colorado gold.

The Placer was a very busy place during the gold rush days. It housed an assay office where the miners would bring in their finds at the end of each day. After the days activities the miners drank black coffee, ate hot bread, pork, and beans for their supper.

Oaked Butt Head Bock - this hearty offering has generous notes of caramel sweetness, with matching oak overtones that enhance the complex melding of malted barley and smoky oak wood flavors.

Imperial Nut Brown Maple is meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup, the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts and is accented with the finest blend of European and American hops. Imperial Nut Brown Ale, at 9% alcohol by volume, is a bigger, bolder version of our wildly popular Maple Nut Brown.

Pick Axe is a classic American Pale Ale domiPick Axe Pale Ale nated by mildly hopped, sparkling flavors and pleasant aromas. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale.

Jack Whacker Wheat AleJackwacker Wheat is a light, unfiltered brew with a citrus aroma and flavor imparted by a late addition of lemon grass. This unfiltered beer retains all of its protein, flavor, and some of its yeast, resulting in a traditionally cloudy appearance.

Our 'feathered friends' are back again this week!

Bridget's Recipe Corner

Hearing the birds chirping outside my window yesterday morning, my thoughts turned to spring and the excitement that we have survived another winter. You have to admit, it's good feeling. However, after hearing the forecast for the next couple of days the reality of living in our fare state returned and I started craving something hearty to eat. That said, I decided it might be time to make one last batch of chili. Instead of my standard ground beef or chicken chili, I went with a steak chili. Go big or go home, right? This Kickin' Chili was the result. Spicy, hearty and filling, we enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

"End of winter" kickin' chili

1 lb. steak, cut into cubes (I had a little leftover/uncooked tenderloin & I also used sirloin)
1 t. cayenne pepper
2 t. Lodo Red Adobo seasonings (Savory Spice Shop)
1 t. cumin

dash red pepper flakes
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 -2 shallots, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1-2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely diced
1 Poblano pepper, seeded and finely diced
1 28oz. can crushed tomatoes
3 14 1/2 oz can diced tomatoes with jalapenos (I used Kroger brand)
1 4oz. can diced green chiles

1 4oz. can tomato paste

1 15 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 15 oz. can hot chili beans

1-2 t. canola oil
1 c. stout beer

www.savoryspiceshop.com

Fun toppings/mix ins
sour cream

grated cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend work well)

chopped red onions

Chili Cheese Fritos (c'mon, they're good)

Place cubed meat in medium size bowl. Drizzle 1 t. oil over the meat and then sprinkle seasonings over the meat, stir well, coating generously. Let sit about 10 minutes. Heat oil in large pot. When warm, add onion, shallot and garlic, stirring well. Let cook about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the steak, diced jalapeño, poblano peppers and beer . Let cook approximately 8-10 minutes, stirring well. Then add the tomatoes and tomato paste. Adjust the seasonings as necessary and let simmer several hours. Add the beans the last 30 minutes of simmering. When ready to serve, enjoy with your favorite toppings.

This spicy chili will pair nicely with a stout beer. Evan, our beer/store manager suggests Coopers Stout from Australia. Find this unique rich, dark beer in our beer cooler $8.99/six pack.
